Center for Southeast Asian Studies - Ateneo de Manila University sign Memorandum-of-Agreement for Philippine Environmental Photography Project

Participating in the signing of the agreement on March 9, 2004, at the Center were the following: front row, left to right: Fr. Jose Cruz, SJ, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, Ateneo de manila University; Alfred W. McCoy, The John R.W. Smail Professor of History and principal investigator for the original Ford Foundation grant that developed the project; back row, left to right: Mike Cullinane, CSEAS Associate Director, Ian Coxhead, CSEAS Director; and Peter C. Gorman, representing the UW Digital Collections Center. The project, originated by Professor McCoy with an initial grant from DoIT and later a joint-UW-Ateneo grant from the Ford Foundation, collected thousands of historical photographs from repositories in the US and the Philippines. In the second phase of the grant in 1998-99 faculty and students of UW-Madison and Ateneo de Manila re-photographed most of the historical sites in the Philippines, compiling a corpus of images for a long-term study of Philippine environments. In the agreement, all the historical and current environmental images will be digitized an entered onto the SEAiT website by the Ateneo de Manila University.
