Fall 2007 Teacher's Workshop: "HEALTH & HEALING
IN SOUTHEAST ASIA"
The
teachers workshop took place with great success despite the storm weather
on Saturday, December 1, 2007,
with 18 enthusiastic teachers and other educators in attendance from
Madison, LaCrosse, Milwaukee,
and Verona! One of workshop themes was the potential SYNERGY that
can occur when the University, K-12 schools and the Community work
together effectively in mutually supportive problems.
The workshop
showcased inspiring speakers who have committed their lives to
Southeast Asian communities in Wisconsin and in Southeast Asia:
Mary Grow (Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture), “Shelter
and Sacred Spaces: Fieldnotes from Thailand”
Jim Harris (We Help War Victims), “Survivors
of War: Rebuilding Lives”
Kabor Thao, (UW-Msn, CSEAS), "Hmong Dance:
A Personal View”
Kabzuag Vaj (Freedom Inc.), "Supporting the
Southeast Asian Community Through Action”
Yang Thai Vang (Hmong shaman), “Being a
Hmong Shaman Today”
Sarith Ou and Roger Garms (Cambodian School Project), "The
Cambodia School Project: Rebuilding Education for Future Generations"
