Spring 2019 Commencements and Achievements

CONGRATULATIONS TO RECENT GRADUATES AND AWARD RECIPIENTS IN SOUTHEAST ASIAN STUDIES!

THE FOLLOWING STUDENTS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THEIR ORAL DEFENSE AND RECEIVED THE MASTERS DEGREE IN SOUTHEAST ASIAN STUDIES:

 

Kim Phuc, Imelda Djatirman, Nick Ut

 

Imelda Djatirman defended her Masters paper, “Normalizing Piety through Modesty: Fashion, Rituals, and Social Media in Indonesia” (May 2019).

Emily Jorgenson defended her Masters paper, “I’m Not Straight, and It’s Not your Fault, Mom”: Queer Women, Citizenship, and Belonging in Indonesia (May 2019).

 

 

Special welcome to Betty Nen on her return from a 2018 Boren IFLI Scholarship and congratulations to Elisebeth Doty for receiving a 2019 Boren IFLI Scholarship!

 

Trading Places: Lisey Doty and Betty Nen

Elisebeth aka Lisey was awarded a 2019 Boren Indonesian Flagship Language Initiative Scholarship and will travel abroad to Malang, Indonesia for a full-time semester of language and culture study. Betty returned in July from an academic year abroad through a Henry Luce/FLAS scholarship and 2018 Boren IFLI scholarship. Additionally, Lisey graduated with Bachelor of Art degrees in religious studies with honors and French.
