The War at Home is a documentary film about the anti-war movement in the Madison, Wisconsin, area during the time of the Vietnam War. It combines archival footage and interviews with participants that explore the events of the period on the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The film screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Glenn Silber while being moderated by Paul Soglin.
Mr. Silber was twice nominated for an Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary, and has also received two National Emmy Awards, the George Polk Award, a Columbia-DuPont Silver Baton, the IRE (Investigative Reporters & Editors) Award; a Writers Guild Award, and dozens of other awards and citations for his work as an independent producer/director and broadcast journalist. He was also the recipient of the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship for Filmmaking, was a Directing Fellow at the American Film Institute’s Center for Advanced Film Studies, and is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (Documentary Branch).
Paul Soglin is currently practicing law after having spent the last ten years holding public office. In 1968, while a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin, he was elected to the Madison Common Council and subsequently re-elevated in 1970 and 1972. In 1973, Mr. Soglin was elevated to the first of three terms as mayor of Madison. During this same period, Mr. Soglin served on the Community Development and Housing Committee of the United States Conference of Mayors and was a co-founder of the Conference on Alternative State and Local Policies.
