“GHOST PLANES: CROSS-CULTURAL COOPERATION AND THE DISCOVERY OF LOST WORLD WAR II WARPLANES IN THAILAND”

Dan Jackson
Lieutenant Colonel, USAF
Department of History
University of Wisconsin-Madison

In November 1944, two American warplanes from Claire Chennault’s 14th Army Air Force “Flying Tigers” went missing on combat missions over North Thailand. Sharing research, working collaboratively with the Royal Thai Air Force, and finding and interviewing local survivors of the war led to the thrilling discovery of the sites 75 years later. Lt Col Jackson will talk about how the international effort came together and how it led to the US government working to bring two American airmen home long after they were lost.
