As a policy practitioner and executive for an American labor union, Tyler is immersed in US politics and domestic policy. As a keen observer of Southeast Asia, she is adept at comparing political and social trends in the region with developments in the US.

In this talk, she argues that the spheres of US domestic and foreign policy have too long been siloed. Her work illuminates the necessity of being both a localist and a globalist to successfully navigate the geopolitical challenges of the 21st Century.

Sally Tyler lives and works in Washington, DC. Her work has appeared in New Mandala, the Asia & Pacific Policy Society’s Policy Forum, The Mekong Review and The Washington Post. She has also presented at the International Conference of Asia Scholars (ICAS).
