N A T I O N A L F L A G

The yellow represents royalty, which symbolizes the leader of Brunei. The white and black bands symbolizes Brunei’s chief ministers. The red emblem in the middle consists of five components: a swallow-tailed flag, the royal umbrella (represents monarchy), the wings of four feathers (symbolizes justice, tranquility, prosperity, and peace), and the two upraised hands signify the government’s pledge to preserve and promote the welfare of the people, and the crescent moon (symbolizes Islam, the state religion). The test on the crescent is the state motto, which read, “Always render service with God’s guidance” and the script on the ribbon reads, “Brunei, the Abode of Peace” in Arabic script.
