Congratulations to Dr. Sheila Zamar, who completed her doctoral degree this summer in Asian Languages and Cultures with a dissertation on “Apprehending Philippine Negrito Languages, 1890-1990: An Inquiry into Linguistic Ideology.” We are, of course, delighted for Sheila’s success, but it comes with some sadness—her departure from our program. Sheila began teaching Filipino at UW-Madison in 2011 and also played a major role in coordinating Filipino at SEASSI. While we wish her all the best in her post-Madison career, we will miss the energy and humor that she brought to our Center and its students and staff.
